Soccer still sucks, The rise and fall of Golf in one day and more…
The Memorial Day massacre called to say that last night’s Game 6 was a beatdown. A few thoughts on that before I get moving…
- Los Angeles mailed in their performance last night. It would be fine since the loss was inevitable but when you have “The Next MJ” on your team you tend to believe that team would have a second wind. What this tells me is either A) Kobe Bryant is not MJ, should not be compared with MJ and is just another NBA player who’s hype exceeds him or B) Michael Jordan’s supporting cast was all that.
It’s probably somewhere in between. I don’t see a Dennis Rodman or Steve Kerr on that Laker team.
As for Boston, Paul Pierce deserved the MVP award but I felt uneasy about it. This team would have never come close to the finals if it weren’t for Kevin Garnett’s work-ethic, determination, drive, passion or desire, let alone his defense and offensive presence on the floor. Without it, this Celtics team would have been a team with some talent but not much else. All we could talk about regarding KG is his intangibles and deep down we all know the MVP is the guy who is the heartbeat of the Boston Celtics which is Garnett.
However, let’s also give praise for Pierce who’s probably never played better than he has over the last few weeks. He has always been a talented player who puts up numbers but during their run he has raised his game an extra notch. He didn’t get the recognition he probably deserved early in his career but he’ll take the ring over the hype that Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady had when Pierce didn’t.
Lastly, the Lakers should compete for another title next year barring any catastropic injuries to key starters.
- Ok so soccer sucks and you ask, what’s changed? Well, nothing. Except that I have to listen to the idiot 3rd generation Canadians in the Toronto-Area honk their horns for Italy - yes, Canadians who happen to have an italian last name. Look, I hate generalizations without real proof as much as the next guy. However, lately I have established a couple of things: 1) You are more scrutinized if you are a conservative than if you are gay in Toronto, and 2) I have very little positive to say about Italians. Italian women are hot, Italian food is good, and a few Italian dudes are cool. Aside from that, I hope their souped Jetta’s or Honda Civic break down on the highway. What does this have to do with soccer? Not much. The sport is still about as exciting as a liquid shit.
- Tiger Woods is gone for the rest of the season because of a second knee surgery. I thought he’d come back for the PGA Championship but after I heard what he’s repairing I took it back. I wonder what bus rammed his knee while running (TIP - run on grass).
His performance makes it even more remarkable AND it provides a terrific argument as to why Golf is a sport with athleticism. And then, Retief Goosen opens his terd mouth and erases that notion. Obviously he does not understand what a true athlete goes through when playing through pain. He talked about Tiger only feeling pain when he hit a bad shot. What THAT should have told Goosen is how funny the mind works. I remember pitching with a tear in my shoulder blade. Did it hurt? Yes. But for about 2 innings I didn’t feel any pain because I locked in, got focused and went to work. What that tells me is golfers lack focus and athleticism. So much for Tiger’s heroics - the credibility he brought to the sport was quickly zapped thanks to Retief’s comments.
By the way, Tiger will crush Retief when he has the chance.
other stuff…
- I can’t believe I’m doing this but I am actually going to air out a blind date I’m about to have. Yes, I’m going braille. Let me set the scenario for you: A friend of mine was at his girlfriend’s place and she was talking about her friend who is a die-hard Jays fan and loves basketball. As she was talking about her my buddy uttered, “That sounds like (The) Dan.” Now I have a scheduled blind date, but here is the catch; double date at a Jays game. That is no good. I will probably yell at the shit Jays hitters and be into the game more than the ‘game’. I also don’t want to change the way I act at a baseball game - and believe me, there will be no second date if I act normally. It must be because I am a conservative, a dick, or both.
Lets hope she’s hot.
