Aren’t you sick of Favre’s antics?

When a person does something once, you can almost forgive that person and move past the issue.  Of course there are exceptions to the rule, such as infidelity  (or in A-Rod’s case banging and overrated, over the hill singer with worse teeth than Michael Strahan), murder or theft just to name a few.

In the world of sports we have witnessed several athletes come back from retirement to play.  Michael Jordan, Mario Lemieux, Sugar Ray Leonard and Ryne Sandberg off the top of my head.  At this time, Brett Favre may be regretting his decision to retire and having seen other athletes unretire you can only understand that Favre is just like some of those other great stars of sports.

The only difference is this is not the first time Favre has yanked the chains of the Green Bay organization or the fans of that team.  Is he coming back or not?  Well, the issue should have been left to rest because he announced his retirement.

The other problem that comes to mind is, once again, the obvious selfishness Favre has always had that is overshadowing every other story in the NFL.  He does not care about what this is doing to the organization, especially Aaron Rodgers, and the fans.  Now, you may think that he should not worry about anyone else except himself because of this situation being so tough.  Problem is, he made the decision in the first place.  Didn’t he learn from 2006 to sit and wait?  He left the Packers organization hanging out to dry until the last possible second - which prompted the franchise to draft Rodgers in the first place.  Also, Football is the prototypical “team sports” which every player knows very well.  As such, an NFL quarterback always has to put into account his team and the players he works with everyday.  For him to put that team in this position is not only selfish but insulting to anyone affiliated with the organization.

With Favre’s illustrious career, Green Bay can’t exactly cut him.  First, because this has been his team.  Second, he helped that team get to the NFC Championship game - only to cost his team a Super Bowl.  Lastly, Green Bay loves him.  With the unknown ahead of them with Rodgers as the starter, Green Bay isn’t sure what to do.

Regardless of the decision, this is typical Favre; spotlight on him, he can’t do no wrong and people generally feel bad for him despite the fact that he put himself in this position.  Perhaps he comes back, perhaps he plays for another team.  As of now, not every football fan sees Favre for what he truly is and that is sad.  At the very least, Green Bay’s new quarterback may actually show genuine enthusiasm when a running back scores a touchdown.  Maybe he won’t bother throwing snowballs at teammates or high-5 an NFL official after a touchdown.  Maybe he’ll actually win a Super Bowl is stick it up #4’s self-serving behind because that would be to a great ending to a pretty ridiculous situation Green Bay is in.

Someone should tell every network that covers the NFL that it doesn’t take guts to rip on Favre when it’s obvious that he deserves it.

It puts his situation into a little better perspective when you compare his retirement/unretirement to that of other greats in their sport.

One difference though, the other guys didn’t hold their respective organizations hostage. Jordan didn’t tell the Bulls that maybe he wanted to play some more, nor did he have family members call ESpN to discuss(bait the public) the matter. Once he got his life straitened back out and figured out he sucked at baseball he was on the court for the Bulls.

When Mario was cleared by docs and the team ownership matter was cleared up he was on the ice.

I respect Favre the player for his accomplishments, but that doesn’t excuse his SELFISH egotistical behavior. That’s the best word to describe him, selfish. I think he’s a selfish prima donna that likes seeing his name in the paper and loves it when he’s the lead story on Sports Center.

I’m not sure why everyone thinks the Packers need him. The Packers will be just fine without the leagues all time leader in interceptions.

i say go Favre go. He’s only got one life to live. It’d be foolish of him to waste time thinking about everyone else. was the Pack thinking of him and his superbowl hopes when they drafted 50k DBs over 3 years? When did they plan on bringing him in a WR or an O-Line. How many times did he have to save the team by himself. He may lead in interceptions, but if your fat WRs cant get open, and your old O-Line can’t protect you while you wait for them slugs to get open, you gotta toss the ball. Management did this to themselves.

Obviously, Favre should have handled each of the past several off-seasons differently. Even now, if it all just rumor…he has an easy opportunity to step up to any one of the many microphones camped outside his house and squash the notion of a comeback.

But just like the creatures living in Paris’ crab grass, the blame needs to be spread around:

    - The media for asking everyone associated with the game about Favre and his intentions. Note that most of these rumors start not with something Brett said or did, but by speculation from someone else.

    - The fans who think Brett Favre is the Jesus.

    - The fans who claim to be tired of the Brett story, but still keep flocking to it. If people weren’t clicking on the links like crazy or watching it on Sportscenter, they would drop it.

I think it’s entirely possible that Brett is laughing his ass off about the media stir he has created.

And in all of this, has anybody asked if Aaron Rodgers needs a hug? He hasn’t even started a game yet, and fans already want to filet his flesh flute in a frying pan.

How about Brian Brohm & Matt Flynn? They have to be thinking “Jesus fucking Christ why won’t this guy go away so we can get a sniff at playing”

Or they may just be lazy fuckers that like holding a clipboard? In anycase I like to think that Rodgers Brohm & Flynn all set around drinking Molson and discuss how they’re going to take him out and make it look like an accident.

“Group hug on cutting his brake lines”

Well, Brett Favre fans and detractors should not be surprised by this at all. And the Packers front office and coaches should not be surprised either. Brett Favre is all about himself. Always has been, always will be.

What is very interesting about all of this is that he controls EVERYTHING. They must let him come back. So the next few weeks are going to be very very interesting to say the least.

I have been saying exactly what Todd said for the last 2 years. At least.

Demon I wouldn’t make the excuses for Brett simply because so many people for years have talked about how he’s never had great wide receivers and they love to drive his legend status higher than it should be. I’m sorry, but Sterling Sharpe was great. And he’s had a better WR core than people think. As for the DB’s, Green Bay’s always needed them.

Miracle and Shooter - great comments, agree with most of it and molson is a way to a man’s heart. Although right now I’m feeling Budweiser over anything. Can’t explain it.

I had enough of Favre’s antics 7-8 years ago when he suddenly became the “PROTECTED ONE”. In the last two years, no quarterback has spent more time on his ASS than Jon Kitna. Sacked more than any other QB in that time span and 4 times more often than Favre. Durring that time span, I can remember ONE TIME that a defensive player was called for roughing the QB on Kitna and everyone knows that if you BREATH on Favre, it’s 15 yards. HELL, I remember the game last year against New Orleans when Favre was sacked while he was scrambling…he NEVER threw the ball and was tackled. The ref called roughing on the play and the Packers got a first down. Unbelievabale.

I just never thought Favre was all that great. He’s been surrounded by some great players and was fortunate to win one super bowl. Last years playoffs was what Favre is about. When the chips are down and he has to make a BIG PLAY in the playoffs? He throws the ball around, throws it up for grabs, throws it as far down the field as possible, closes his eyes and flings it. Remember, Favre has an interception for every two TD passes.

Go back down to Mississippi Brett and enjoy your kids like you said you were going to do.

FP - Favre can thank Desmond Howard for his ring. He should still be stuck at zero. Those Packer teams should have cashed in 3 instead of barely grabbing 1.

You used a great example with Kitna. The refs do protect Favre. So does the media. Chad Johnson gets ridiculed for celebrations yet Favre is ok when he high-5’s a referee? Doesn’t anyone remember him taking his helmet off in the Super Bowl running around the field and showing up the Patriots? That was a classless act by a classless football player who’s received more love than he deserves.
